tri-it!

I've been swimming a lot lately. Not the bob around the pool, Marco Polo kind of swimming. But REAL swimming....lap swimming. My motivation for getting into the cool pool at 6am is knowing I can hang out in the hot tub, steam room and sauna afterward. It's been a good way to start my day. So when my brother in law, Jason, asked if I wanted to do a Triathlon I said "YES!"

I kept telling myself I wasn't going to try to prove anything and that I just wanted to go have fun. Well, if you can't tell from the pictures I had a great time! Probably a little too good.
(Jason, Me, Travis, Celia)
(Just starting my 5k run)
(coming in from my 20K bike)
But now I can't wait to do another one so I can REALLY push myself and  see if I can't win it. I was only a couple minutes behind the leader and I came in 4th. Not bad, but not as good as First place. (Although, Ben keeps telling the boys that Mommy won her race :)

The open water swim was one of the craziest things I've ever done. Arms & legs flapping all around me, foggy goggles, sun blaring into my eyes, murky water... you get the picture. I can't wait to do it again!
Who wants to join me?

Side Note: While on the course I passed a face I hadn't seen for almost 10 years. "Dave Dance?" I said. "Hey Katie!" I hadn't seen him since BYU. And when I finished the race another friend I had not seen for a while met up with me as well. Too fun!

  2. well, u have to have SOME fun when you do these events, katie! otherwise u wouldn't do any more of them. :) besides, i bet there were a ton of women in your age division, so finishing 4th is great! and overall, i only counted about a dozen women who came in before you, so to be that close to the front is impressive. i think you did amazing!

  5. Hi Katie,

I'm sorry I'm contacting you this way; but I didn't know how to reach out to you. First off, I'm absolutely crazy in love with my puj tub. In fact, all of my girlfriends are in the early stages of motherhood and I've made sure that every one of them has your lifesaver in a sink! But this isn't why I'm contacting you.

I've been tossing back & forth ideas for a new product that hasn't been invented yet. It's come about because I needed it as a new mommy but couldn't find anything like it anywhere!

I'm a 1st grade school teacher, now a new stay at home Mommy. When I have an idea I can't let it go until I see it come to life. It's a "bug" I've been cursed with & as a results I can never stop creating.

So I've been praying about it for awhile now and whether or not to "go for it" with this new idea. Well, you kept coming to my mind. I didn't know who "you" were. All I got was, "Try to contact the inventor of the puj. They had to start somewhere and you love their product. They can lead you in the right direction."

I dismissed the thought because I thought that was crazy. I didn't even know you personally and was a little intimidated to just say, "Hey, can you help me?"

But the thought wouldn't go away. So I got on your website and thought, "This girl seems like she could be LDS. Just a hunch but that's the vibe I'm getting." We seem to stick out like sore thumbs sometimes. And somehow I got to your blog profile page and saw that your favorite book is the BofM! Whaat? I started crying right then and there... bc I too am one of your fellow "sisters".

So obviously, I believe it's not coincidence that 1) I loOOve your tub 2) The impression to contact you was real and 3) I'm acting upon it (even though I'm scared and nervous) bc I'm hoping that you can help me...

    Thanks girl!

  6. Wow Kate! That is amazing to me, and I'd say 4th place totally wins the race.
    1st is the worst
    2nd is the best
3rd is the one with the hairy chest
4th is the girl who rules the school!

  7. Go, Katie, Go! I am so proud of you, girl! Not quite ready to do an open swim, but if you make it to AZ for Thanksgiving I'll run the Thanksgiving morning Turkey trot with ya :) And then I'll take you hiking with the boys to Fat Mans Pass on South Mountain. . . you're gonna love it!
