christmas stocking + exotic fruit

Candy has become sort of a problem in our house. I never buy it, and yet somehow my two year old is always finding some. He could eat candy all day if I would let him. Don't get me wrong, I love a great treat, but I want to keep it just that. A treat! And if he gets it on a regular basis then it's no longer a treat.
And so, I have a new tradition I want to introduce. Or rather, a new tradition I want Santa to introduce. Instead of a stocking full of candy canes and chocolate, I want Santa to fill the stockings with exotic fruits. Goodies like kumquats, goose berries, star fruit and crab apples.
Just think! We'll have fun exploring foods we've never had before. And they will be a true treat without all the refined sugars.

But don't worry, Santa is not a total Scrooge. I have little pack of trail mix with plenty of chocolate in it.

What does Santa put in your stocking?

  1. I love the stockings in your picture. Are you going to use stockings like them? How about nuts and jewelry, they would fit nicely into Christmas stockings. Ask Austin about some exotic fruit he had here. I can't remember what it was called. It was really pretty on the outside but was quite tasteless.

  2. I'm sorry, but LOL!! Not that I'm against your new tradition. Just from someone who loves candy, it's almost offensive to consider the chocolate in the trail mix a real candy treat. Still L-ingOL.

  4. I was struggling to come up with ideas for my SO's stocking, as he doesn't really want candy. We buy candies and chocolate throughout the year and it doesn't feel "special" at Christmas. So instead I went to a specialty store and bought some exotic fruits! I got star fruit, kumquats and cactus pears. I was kind of playing off the idea of oranges in stockings, but he doesn't really like oranges. Anyways, I came across your post while I was searching to see if anyone else does this. Did you make this a tradition for your family?
